Gas emerging from a wellhead on the Chimney Rock Lease.
As part of our commitment to build an organization that stands above the norm, Mammoth Resource Partners, Inc. obtained the services of a civil engineer to design a Groundwater Protection Plan and a Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC) for each of the tank batteries on our leases.
Required by the Clean Water Act of the Environmental Protection Agency, the purpose of the plans is to help prevent the discharge of oil into navigable waters and the groundwater table. Since many small streams eventually empty into rivers or lakes the Pollution Prevention Rule can be extrapolated to include any above ground water source.
Unfortunately, even since 1974, neither the federal nor state governments have expended any manpower to see that oil drillers take the appropriate measures to protect the environment. As such, MRP inherited some less than ideal well and storage tank setups that needed attention.
In order to get all our leases into EPA compliance, Mammoth contacted Kyle Barron of American Engineers, Inc., of Glasgow, KY. Mr. Barron was taken out to the field where he was shown Mammoth's largest tank battery located on the Steve Jones lease. He spent at least an hour exploring the surroundings, following the creek running nearby, taking pictures and jotting down various notes. Barron used the information to provide a template which Mammoth Field Services can apply to all the other tank batteries.
We realize that the extra effort Mammoth expends means extra expense, but our desire is to be good custodians of the environment and to ensure our operation is, in every manner, above reproach and within the requirements of all regulatory and EPA standards. |
